Grow Africa Investment Forum

Each year, Grow Africa’s major milestone event is an Agricultural Investment Forum at which partner countries present investment opportunities to a diverse array of global and regional investors, together with other stakeholders. This year, it was held alongside the World Economic Forum for Africa in Abuja, Nigeria.

Covering an international event in a foreign country has considerations you wouldn't face when shooting locally. Firstly, there's the language barrier because not everyone attending speaks English; then the cultural one, reason being different cultures appreciate photography differently. These two called on us to be very discreet on the first day of the Forum, with great use of fast wide and telephoto lenses eliminating the use of flashes which might have interrupted the policy-changing dialogues.

On the second day, those in attendance had become very comfortable with having two photographers in their midst. Some even asked us to take photos that would help them remember their time at the Forum.

The Closing Plenary had several Heads of State and Government in attendance. Their security detail gave us restrictions on movement but we realised that polite requests made to the security agents allowed us to get the shots we needed.

At the end of the Forum, a Soiree was held to let our hairs down and celebrate the achievements of the past two days.
